Vijay Rupani bans release of 'Padmavati'

The controversy around the release of ‘Padmavati’ is getting denser and murkier. After Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan declared a ban on its release, today one more state has banned it. The state we are talking about is Gujarat, where Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has declared that his government would not allow release of this Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial in the state.

He has said in his statement, “There is a lot of sensitivity in Kshatriya and Rajput communities with regards to certain depiction of history. We respect their feelings and with elections on the anvil, the state government does not want any controversy. Further, when asked by media whether he had watched to movie to come to such consensus, he avoided the same and said, “I have met several people who have expressed anguish and anger against the movie. It has hurt their sentiments bad and we respect their point of view.”

Talking about the film ‘Padmavati’, it was originally supposed to release on December 1, but has been postponed for an indefinite period by the makers now. The movie stars Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh in the lead roles.
