Actress Shilpa Shetty and husband Raj Kundra have been granted anticipatory bail by a district court in Thane on Saturday. A cheating case was filed against them by a textile firm owner. Earlier, the court had granted the accused interim protection from arrest. Additional Sessions Judge Sangeeta Khalipe stated in her order that in case of an arrest, the accused should be relieved on personal bond or surety of Rs 1 lakh each.

The owner of Bhalotia Exports of Bhiwandi, Ravi Bhalotia had filed an FIR with Kongaon police station in the past month. In his FIR, it was mentioned that he had supplied bed sheets to Best Deal TV (BDTV), a firm wherein Kundra and Shetty are directors. The complainant stated that BDTV (e-comm and teleshopping platform) sold the bed sheets but didn’t pay him the proceeds worth Rs 24 lakh. The defence lawyer Aniket Nikam said in the court that the accused had already paid Rs 1 crore to the complainant and only Rs 24 lakh were pending. He further stated that the complainant in fact owed the accused Rs 25 lakh as a compensation for a delay in the delivery. Also, the lawyer said that as stated by Bhalotia that on Friday, Kundra had threatened him inside the courtroom that he would recover Ts 100 crore from him, it was in reality not even a threat. He told the court, “Kundra had filed a suit against the complainant and only asked the latter to “keep Rs 100 crore ready.” He further said that the accused were even ready to render an apology on this matter. Although, Kundra and Shetty have been granted an anticipatory bail, the Public Prosecutor Vinit Kulkarni opposed the bail and said to the court that they should seriously reconsider Kundra’s misbehaviour.
