This year everyone was waiting with bated breath for Yash Raj Film’s action-adventure ‘Thugs of Hindostan’. The film featured two of the biggest stars of Bollywood -Aamir Khan and Amitabh Bachchan. This was the first time that Aamir and Amitabh were seen sharing the screen space. And this reason was enough for everyone to have huge expectations from the film. However much, to everyone’s surprise, the film opened up to negative reviews from the critics.
The film even went on to enter the coveted Rs.100 crore club in just three days. However, the film which is mounted on the budget of Rs. 3oo crore failed to live up to everyone’s expectations. Trade analyst and film critic Taran Adarsh tweeted about the film’s dismal performance at the box -office after the first week of its release.

After a dismal *extended* Week 1, #ThugsOfHindostan went further downhill in Weekend 2… Sure, the decline was imminent, but, in this case, it’s a CRASH… Reduced to 1800 screens in Week 2 [5000 screens in Week 1], #TOH will struggle to stay afloat on weekdays…

Now according to the latest buzz, the exhibitors who have suffered due to the film’s poor performance at the Box-office are planning to approach the YRF studio for compensation. An anonymous exhibitor was quoted saying in Mid-Day as, “As is the practice with YRF, the studio had taken on the distribution responsibilities. The exhibitors agreed to the minimum-guarantee deal as they expected handsome profits from the big-budget film, but the tables have turned. So, we are planning to approach the sub-distributors [YRF] to get a refund. We hope YRF, Aamir Khan and Amitabh Bachchan will help us in this situation, else there is a possibility of a few theatres having to even shut down.”

Earlier Salman Khan’s ‘Tubelight’ too faced a similar situation and the actor did offer a compensation to the distributors. With the exhibitors planning to apparently approach the production house this week, now it has to be seen if Aamir Khan and Yash Raj too will offer any compensation for the losses of the exhibitors.
Till then stay tuned for more updates on this story.
