Bollywood’s Singham Ajay Devgn is all set to don the role of unsung warrior Subedar Taanaji Malusare, who fought alongside Chatrapathi Shivaji Maharaj. Though not much has been revealed about the historical drama, rumors abound in Bollywood circles that Saif Ali Khan may be roped in to play the main antagonist.
As per DNA report, The Taanaji team believes that Saif Ali Khan will make for an interesting choice to play Udaybhan Rathod, the Rajput officer and fort keeper appointed by Jai Singh, chief of the Moghul army under Aurangzeb. The Om Raut directorial recounts the Battle of Sinhagad in 1670, which was fought between Tanaji Malusare, a commander in Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s army, and Udaybhan. The former sacrificed his life to recapture Sinhagad Fort from the Moghuls.
The report further revealed that Saif’s representative has denied development on this front. But if the actor is finalized, then ‘Taanaji: The Unsung Warrior’ will be his fourth film with Devgn. The two actors have worked in ‘Kachche Dhaage’ (1999), ‘LOC Kargil’ (2003) and ‘Omkara’ (2006).
Ajay had unveiled the first poster of the film on this day last year. He wrote: “He fought for his People, his Soil & his King Chhatrapati Shivaji. The unsung warrior of glorious Indian history, Subedar Taanaji Malusare.”
The film is slated to release in 2019.
On the work front, Saif Ali Khan will next be seen in ‘Baazaar’ and Ajay Devgn also has a Luv Ranjan film co-starring Ranbir Kapoor.
