Sonam Kapoor

Yeah, yeah, we know! Sonam Kapoor is the queen of eccentricity, of uncanny fashion elements, of outspokenness and all things you can associate with an uptown girl who has access to almost every brand under the sun. And guess what? We ain’t even trying to dilute that fact. She is our desi fashionista who’s capable of giving even the Kardashians and Jenners a run for their money. But there are times when we look at her ensemble and wonder, “What’s that now?” No, we’re not trying to be sarcastic jerks, but that question borders more on curiosity.

Recently, the actress has been all over the news, courtesy her stunning yet debatable looks at a high-profile friend’s wedding she attended in London with none other than her rumoured beau Anand Ahuja. Well, the couple’s crackling chemistry, which we’re totally jealous of, requires yet another post. But for now, let’s focus on what made us console our necks for a moment. Sonam attended one of the functions in this super cool knit high-neck purple sweater and a matching brocade skirt in a lighter tone with floral design from Temperley London’s Fall 2017 collection. She accentuated the look with a 70s-inspired hairdo, kohled eyes, and blood-red lipstick. The lovely polki necklace and earrings by mother Sunita Kapoor added major ethnic feels to her western look. Sonam completed her look with black shoes and a sling bag from Yves Saint Laurent.

While the overall look can be passed off as a welcome change from those done-to-death sarees and lehengas, we couldn’t get over the high-neck sweater that gives those strangulation vibes. It’s a bit too ‘choking’ for our liking. And look at her body language. It seems like she had to painstakingly hold her neck and head high (quite literally) throughout the ceremony as the outfit wouldn’t allow any neck jerks. It’s the perfect mix of fashion and doubles up as a spondylitis treatment. In fact, we think that a cervical collar just got a fancy update.

If you’re planning to try this look, all we would say is a polite, “Best of luck.”
