Dia Mirza
Dia’s look is refreshing and remains one of our favourites. The divine beauty (that’s what we’d like to call her) seemed to have a no-red clause for her wedding day as she did not wear anything red in any of her marriage ceremonies. Wonderful! She donned this stunning beige and turquoise blue sharara designed by Ritu Kumar, with gold jewellery. Just look at those bottle green and peacock blue borders and the hatke farshi pyjama. She opted for a dewy, fresh look for her special day with glossy lips and peach blush. But honestly, the lady doesn’t even need makeup; she’s always glowing!
Asin Thottumkal
For the Hindu ceremony, Asin wore this exquisite off-white and golden embellished lehenga from Sabyasachi. How could any bride not look scintillating with the demigod of intricate bridal outfits on board? The beautiful beige colour with gold zari work and a gorgeous deep maroon border made the actress look nothing short of a princess. With sultry winged eyeliner and bold red lips, her bridal game was bang on.
Soha Ali Khan
Royalty and grace personified! And that’s exactly how a Nawab daughter looks on her wedding day! When Soha decided to tie the knot with her long-time beau, she chose the no-red route. She wore this resplendent off-white lehenga designed by Sabyasachi Mukherjee and clubbed it with an orange dupatta (the colour’s just so fresh and young). The best part about her look was the traditional maang tika, passa, gold choker and an emerald green statement neck piece. Minimal makeup and a no-fuss vibe were perfect for her wedding day.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan
When the most beautiful woman of the world (unarguably) got married and transformed from "Miss" to "Mrs”, she chose this shimmering golden-yellow South-Indian saree. Aishwarya was keen on trying a different colour, so on her wedding day, no part of her outfit had the colour red in it. Her heavy Kundan neckpieces, bajubandh, golden bridal headgear, not-to-be-missed huge gajra made her look nothing short of regal.
The moment we think about any desi, Bollywood-style wedding, our mind gets flooded with the images of coy brides laden with everything even closely associated with the colour red. Yeah, right from that maang tika, lehenga, jewellery to the nail polish (even the décor, damn!). And it’s not really our fault. Whether it’s Shilpa Shetty Kundra, Bipasha Basu or Urmila Matondkar, B-town divas have a colourful history of letting go of their “Miss” tag by donning hot red avatars for their special day. So, the moment we saw some Bollywood stars that broke the norm and opted for fun, new colours instead, the fashion spy in us started jumping with excitement. Go ahead, break the stereotypes, ladies. We totally love it!
Let’s check out these gorgeous brides who ditched red for their wedding day.
