Mera joota hai Japani
And just when we thought that Sonam has shocked us, confused us and made us go WTF, here she comes in this tricky handwoven khadi saree from Anavila Misra. And the woman clubbed it with black brogues. Yes, you heard it right. What did we learn? It’s totally cool to show your ankles while wearing a saree. We love those bell sleeves and how it was draped visibly higher, breaking all fashion norms.
The dhoti invention
This outfit is simple but it broke the internet with its glam quotient. The lady does have a penchant for trying out new things and taught us that it’s high time we broke free from boring nine yards. This monochrome saree in black and white was designed by Tarun Tahiliani and received applause for its unique quotient. Sonam teamed up the look with a statement neck piece and delicate black sandals.
Cannes saga
Sonam Kapoor rocked the red carpet at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival in this white lace saree and a dope cape, giving a glimpse of India’s rich culture to all the awestruck firangs. The actress wore this Anamika Khanna saree with a traditional kundan nose ring (it garnered a lot of attention) and she looked more than just plain gorgeous. She taught us that even a floor-length cape can be worn with a saree effortlessly.
The denim dare
This is one combination no one could possibly think of. Saree and denim? Really? She bid adieu to petticoat and safety pins. Woahh! Sonam wore this all-denim Masaba Gupta creation with a tan belt and matching loafers. Yes, it also has a pallu and pleats on the side. So, even a saree can be fuss-free and the chances of undraping this piece by mistake are absolutely zero. Point taken!
Lacy affair
The actress attended the Elie Saab couture show during the Paris Fashion week wearing this Deepti Pruthi powder-pink net sari with an intricate white lace border. We just can’t take our eyes off the white halter blouse with lacy collar detailing and that peach Elie Saab long sleeved lace shrug. She completed the look with pearl hoop earrings and an elegant white clutch.
Redefining aesthetics
Sonam slipped into this edgy black and blue saree by Rimzim Dadu at Cannes 2016. We are drooling over the bold colors and interesting metallic texture of the saree. She clubbed it with black peep toes and jewellery by Suhani Pittie. A neat hair bun and bold makeup finished off her look.
A psychedelic risk
The NorBlack NorWhite Shimma saree with a high-neck sheer white blouse is surely not everyone's cup of tea, but Sonam just pulled it off with utmost élan. She teamed up this psychedelic, unicorn-hued saree with a silver clutch and a pair of metallic stilettos. The actress wore a set of rings from Lynn Ban along and a metallic gold watch from the Swiss brand, IWC Schaffhausen. With a chic updo and simple makeup with products from L’Oreal Professional, Sonam certainly set all the tongues wagging.
She’s effervescent, overly opinionated, fearless and most importantly, experimental when it comes to her fashion sensibilities. Whether she makes a faux pas or stuns us with her sartorial choices, she always manages to teach us one crucial lesson: it’s OK to go the unconventional route even if the world has a good time criticising you. Yes, we are talking about Sonam Kapoor.

The spunky actress may not like to be called the queen of sartorial choices, but for us, she indeed is, and she has proved the same, numerous times. In fact, we have been particularly impressed by the way she has draped sarees, for those have indeed been interesting. So, here are a few instances when she rocked the hell out of a saree. Take a look. (Also Read: Say hello to tinsel town’s new obsession, the Tassel Earrings!)
