Forget what they told you about choosing skin tone-appropriate colours!
We’ve seen Rihanna rocking the most so-called bizarre lips and back home, our dusky siren Priyanka Chopra has worn the most obscure greys and purples like a boss. So, first things first, forget the bull-crap you’ve heard about choosing colours as per your skin tone. Just go all out, pick something that delights you. But the colour shouldn’t make you uncomfortable. That’s the only golden rule you need to follow.
Pigmentation woes!
Always opt for dark lipsticks that deliver intensely saturated colours with just one swipe. The risk of the colour looking ashy or uneven on the lips is high if the lipstick has low pigmentation. A quick piece of advice: there’s a compound called titanium dioxide that dilutes the colour in lipsticks, so check the ingredients on the label if possible.
Amp up your brow game
If you feel that brows can be overlooked, think again. It’s time to amp up the arches as a strong brow game makes an impact when clubbed with dark lips. Just skip the blush and eyeshadow as you don’t want to look like a colour palette. Duh, but don't forget the mascara. Check out Deepika Padukone’s dark, bushy brows for some inspo.
Exfoliate and moisturise
Most women often use lip balms before using lipsticks, but forget exfoliation. The truth is; you cannot skip both these steps if you want to rock the dark lips like a pro. Especially the matte ones are notorious for highlighting chapped or flaky lips. Just make sure your pout is smooth and pampered before you use dark shades. Check out Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s red lips. Can you see some cracked lines? That’s one mistake you cannot make.
Clean the edges
Our aim is not to look like Dracula with a bleeding lipstick. So, always wipe the edges of your lips after application. Don’t make the mistake of using tissues for this step. A q-tip works a lot better, especially if it is matte shade, which gets difficult to remove once it sets. So, go ahead ladies, be your bold and bewitching self.
Hey, lovelies! What if we tell you that you also can rock the dark lipstick trend just like our Bollywood divas Priyanka Chopra, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Nargis Fakhri and Sonam Kapoor without looking like a Goth queen? Deep berry, purple stains or merlot reds; trust us, these lip colours are surprisingly empowering.
