2018 is coming to an end and this year Bollywood tried to focus more on content and storytelling. This year many films such as ‘Andhadhun’, ‘October’, and ‘Stree’ proved that if your script and content is sound then your film will shine at the box office.
Let’s look back at 10 unexpected and surprising hits of 2018:
1 ‘Andhadhun’:
Ayushmann Khurrana starrer ‘Andhadhun’ has to be counted as one of the most unexpected hits of 2018. The film was the brainchild of Sriram Raghavan and Ayushmamm portrayed the role of a blind man with great aplomb.
2. ‘Stree’:
Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor starrer ‘Stree’ made giant strides at the box office. The film set in rural India made an instant impact with the audience and earned over Rs 100 crore at the box office.
3. ‘Raazi’:
Alia Bhatt proved her mettle in Meghna Gulzar’s ‘Raazi’. The 25-year-old actress gave a superlative performance and ‘Raazi’ also managed to enter Rs 100 crore club.
4. ‘Pad Man’:
Akshay Kumar tried something new and in ‘Pad Man’, he educated audiences about menstrual hygiene. The Khiladi Kumar nailed the role perfectly in R Balki’s film.
5. ‘October’:
Varun Dhawan maintained his 100% record at the box office and played a totally different character in Shoojit Sircar’s ‘October’. In the film, we got to see the vulnerable side of Varun.
6. ‘Badhaai Ho’:
Ayushmann Khurrana was on a role in 2018. In ‘Badhaai Ho’, he played the role of a son, whose elderly parents get pregnant. ‘Badhaai Ho’ was really the surprise package of 2018 and did a superb business at the box office.
7. ‘Hichki’:
Rani Mukerji once again proved her class in ‘Hichki’. She played the character of a teacher who suffers from Tourette Syndrome. The film turned out to be a huge success.
8. ‘Parmanu’:
John Abraham showed his patriotic colours in Abhishek Sharma’s ‘Pokhran’. John played the role of IAS officer, who plays an instrumental role in India’s quest for nuclear power.
9. ‘Manto’:
Nawazuddin Siddiqui is a master craftsman, isn’t he? The versatile actor gave a memorable performance in Nandita Das’ biopic on Saadat Hasan Manto’s life.
10: ‘Tumbbad’:
‘Tumbbad’ was another great surprise of 2018. A mythological story about a goddess who created the entire universe. The plot revolves around the consequences when humans build a temple for her first-born. The film despite having no big star did quite well at the box office.
