Congress MP Ranjeet Ranjan recently introduced a bill in Lok Sabha, which suggests that the budget of any Indian wedding should be limited to Rs 5 lakhs. Anyone spending more than that will have to donate 10% of the extra amount to a financially less privileged woman.

The proposal will surely stir debates across all sections of the society. Actress Taapsee Pannu, whose ‘Running Shaadi’ is garnering positive reviews from both critics and audience, spoke to HT wherein she firmly said she does not approve the idea of capping wedding budgets.

“I’m not saying you must spend a lot of money. But that cap shouldn’t be put by a legal authority. We are actually banning and limiting everything. All this will lead to a point where people won’t be able to take it anymore. The intention is good. But it should be a very subjective thing. No law or forced regulation should be passed,” Taapsee said. (Also Read: Taapsee Pannu gave her fan a role in her film ‘Running Shaadi’)

‘Running Shaadi’ is about a website which offers assistance to couples who want (or need) to elope and get married. “A majority of India is against the idea of love marriage though I don’t have much idea of such people having this kind of ideology because I come from a family where people have married into different castes and religions,” she says.

And how does she want to celebrate her own marriage? “I’ll decorate it nicely but will have only people with whom who I’ve one-on-one connect,” the actress signs off.

‘Running Shaadi’ also feature Amit Sadh and is directed by debutant Amit Roy.
