Laal Singh Chaddha released in theatres on August 11. The Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor starrer has garnered mixed reviews from critics and audience. While many have praised the movie, some have found it not up to the mark. Laal Singh Chaddha is the official Hindi adaptation of 1994 Hollywood classic, Forrest Gump starring Tom Hanks in the lead. In the Hindi remake, Aamir has played Laal, Tom Hanks’ character. Oscars has now honoured Aamir Khan’s film as the Academy has promoted it on their social media.
For the unversed, in 1995 Tom Hanks won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his role as Gump. It won six Academy Awards including the Academy Award for Best Picture and Best Directing. Forrest Gump was nominated for 13 Oscars.
The social media handles of The Academy shared a video clip that showed side-by-side comparison of both films. It showed scenes how Laal Singh Chaddha recreated some of the original scenes from Forrest Gump in the Hindi adaptation.
The caption in the post read: “Robert Zemeckis and Eric Roth’s sweeping story of a man who changes the world with simple kindness receives an Indian adaptation in Advait Chandan and Atul Kulkarni’s ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ starring Aamir Khan in the title role made famous by Tom Hanks (sic).”

It’s ironic that in its own country the movie has faced controversy as a section of people called for boycott of the film, but it has been getting support from the Academy, isn’t it?
Directed by Advait Chandan, the movie also stars Mona Singh and Naga Chaitanya in pivotal roles.
