Aamir Khan reveals why he had quitted Tennis

At Wimbledon 2024, Aamir interacted with former tennis player and commentator Vijay Amritraj. During his chat, the actor revealed that he used to play the game at a young age. “I don’t think I could have ever made it to any significant level but I really enjoyed the game so I had a lot of fun while playing it,’‘ he said.

Further, he revealed that he stopped playing the game after his father Tahir Hussain asked him to quit the sport. ”And then one fine day, my dad decided that I should stop playing so I stopped,” he said, adding, “Well, I think I am very happy where I am so yeah and good for tennis that I didn’t continue.” This was Aamir’s second time at Wimbledon. In 2023, he attended the Men’s Final with his children Junaid, Ira Khan, and Azad.

Aamir Khan on making a film on tennis

Aamir Khan was also asked about making a film on tennis. He said, “Well, I hope so. If some nice story comes along, then I’d love to do a film on tennis as well. But for me, for a film, it’s really the story and the characters that make a film for me. And you know, I have to confess that my first instinct was not to promote cricket when I was doing Lagaan or to promote wrestling when I was doing Dangal. I was really reacting to those stories as a human being, as a creative person. And the fact that they had, that sports was such an important part of it, just made it better. But if a story on tennis comes along with tennis as a backdrop, I’d love to, I’d love to make that film.”

On the work front, Aamir Khan has not appeared in any films since 2022’s Laal Singh Chaddha. He will next be seen in Sitare Zameen Par, which is scheduled to release in December.
