Yash Raj Films and Netflix partnership
On Friday, the two giants released a joint statement confirming their new multi-year creative partnership. YRF and Netflix will collaborate to create films and series to bring defining stories to audiences in India and across the world. The first two projects under this partnership were also announced simultaneously. The first is web series, The Railway Men, while the other is a film titled Maharaj.
The Railway Men
The Railway Men is a four-part character-driven thriller. It stars R. Madhavan, Kay Kay Menon, Divyendu Sharma and Babil Khan. The series is directed by debutant director Shiv Rawail. Inspired by true stories, The Railway Men is based on the deadly gas leak in the Indian city of Bhopal. A cloud of toxic gas escaped from a pesticide plant, on the night of 2nd December 1984, in the city of Bhopal that injured and claimed thousands of lives. This is the untold story of the unsung heroes, who rose to the occasion that night to save the city and its people. It is the story of their courage, sense of duty and humanity.
Maharaj
The second project, Maharaj, is a film marking the Bollywood debut of actor Junaid Khan. It also stars Jaideep Ahlawat, Sharvari and Shalini Pandey. The film is directed by Siddharth P. Malhotra, whose last film was Rani Mukerji starrer Hichki. Also inspired by true events, Maharaj, is an incredible David vs Goliath story set in the 1800s. It is about how a regular man, journalist by profession, takes on a powerful role-model of society, hailed by many as a messiah for the masses. The fearless reporter uncovers a series of incidents that shake the very foundation of society.
With two giants like Netflix and YRF joining hands, one can expect some high quality content coming out of this partnership. Both The Railway Men and Maharaj just fit in that and are just the beginning.
