Aamir Khan teams up with Kiran Rao for her next directorial Laapataa Ladies

Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao continue their professional collaboration with their new project, Laapataa Ladies. The film marks Kiran’s return to direction with Aamir Khan Productions backing the film. The team made the official announcement of the same recently.

Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao team up for Laapataa Ladies

On Thursday, Aamir Khan Productions page on social media made the official announcement of the film. Laapataa Ladies is a comedy-drama and promises a quirky narrative, hilarious dialogues, and a talented cast. It stars Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastava, Chhaya Kadam and Ravi Kishan. The film will release in theatres next year on January 5, 2024. But before that, the film has its grand premiere at Toronto International Film Festival on September 8.

Laapataa Ladies follows the jolly mess that ensues when two young brides get lost from a train. It is set in 2001 and based in rural parts of India. The film marks Kiran’s return to direction after over a decade. She made her debut as a director in 2011 with the highly acclaimed Dhobi Ghat. Laapataa Ladies marks just her second directorial venture.

Jio Studios is the presenter of ‘Laapataa Ladies’ with Aamir Khan and Jyoti Deshpande producing the film. It is made under the banner of Aamir Khan Productions and Kindling Productions. The script is based on an award-winning story by Biplab Goswami. Sneha Desai has written the screenplay & dialogue while Divyanidhi Sharma has given the additional dialogues.

Aamir and Kiran’s relationship

Aamir and Kiran met on the sets of Lagaan and had their wedding in 2005. The couple then entered in business together and produced several films including Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na, Dangal and Laal Singh Chaddha. In 2021, the ex-couple announced their divorce, but stated that they will remain friends and keep working together. Laapataa Ladies is a testament to that word.
