Aamir Khan’s show ‘Satyamev Jayate’ on television was based on bringing the truth to limelight, regarding many social issues. The last episode dealt with a the harmful effects of Pesticides on the environment and health of women and child. The CMD of United Phosphorous,Rajju Shroff has sent a legal notice to Aamir,Kiran and 17 others demanding a public apology for representing him in Bad Light. In the episode Shroff was pitted against researchers, doctors and housewives who had come prepared with proof of damage done by pesticides.
Shroff also filed an RTI to ascertain the veracity of the research conducted by Dr Rashmi Sanghi, who was part of the show.Dr Rashmi claimed that she decided to conduct a research on effects of pesticides after she became a mother her tests revealed that the incidence of endosulphan in breast milk from women in Bhopal was 800 per cent more than what was permissible.
Aamir Khan had torn through the weak defences of Shroff, rendering him the villian of the whole thing. After the show Shroff decided to carry out his own research on the validity of Dr Rashmi’s claim ,but he was shocked when she said that she had never visited Bhopal to collect the samples but was merely using the available resources to test the samples provided by an NGO,even the IIT Kanpursaid that they were not aware of any tests conducted at FEAT.
Armed with these facts Shroff sent a legal notice to Sanghi ,Aamir and others,Aamir on his part wrote a stern letter to him stating that the show was an open platform for debates and he should not intimidate a fellow participant.
As per Information Sanghi said”The allegation by Shroff is neither right nor wrong… I will only speak when the matter is cleared by the courts.” Whereas a spokesperson from the show reiterated: “We stand by what we have shown in our programme, deny the allegations made against us and are happy to defend ourselves in a court of law”.
