Abhishek Bachchan hopes to raise daughter Aaradhya Bachchan the way he was brought up; says, “If I am ever stuck…”

Actor Abhishek Bachchan has always expressed immense pride in being a father to his daughter, Aaradhya Bachchan. In a recent interview, he shared insights into his parenting philosophy, emphasizing the values he aims to instil in her. Reflecting on his own upbringing, Abhishek credited his parents, Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan, for teaching him the nuances of parenting.

Speaking with CNBC-TV18, Abhishek highlighted the importance of instilling strong values in children. He said, “You spend a lifetime trying to search for who you are. But there are certain values that you should stand by. And if you can manage to be recognised and remembered by those values, I think you have led a successful life. That’s kind of how I was brought up. These are the things that I’ve seen my parents do, and I hope I am able to do the same for my daughter.”

While discussing his approach to parenting, Abhishek acknowledged that parents may not always be the best teachers for their children. He explained, “I don’t know if parents are the best teachers, I am on the fence about that. I think our emotions and desire for our children to get it right, succeed, and not hurt themselves come in the way. Our emotions towards them maybe colour our judgement. A parent should lead and teach by example. Today, whatever I have learnt and imbibed from my parents is by seeing the way they conduct themselves, not necessarily by what they told me I should be doing.”

Abhishek added that his parents gave him the freedom to make his own decisions but admitted he still looks up to his father for guidance. “If I am ever stuck, I would still sit back and say, ‘What would my dad have done?’” He admires Amitabh Bachchan’s work ethic, noting that at 82, the veteran actor starts shooting as early as 7 a.m. “I want to lead by his example. When I am 82, I want my daughter to say that about me as well,” he said.

Amid rumours of trouble in their marriage, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan recently dismissed speculations by attending Aaradhya’s school event together in Mumbai. Married in 2007, the couple welcomed Aaradhya Bachchan on November 16, 2011.
