Abhishek Chaubey‘s ‘Udta Punjab’ received 89 cuts from the Censor board, and the board has also asked the makers to drop any reference of Punjab in the film, and there be no ‘Punjab’ in the title. The film is extensively based on the issue of drug abuse in Punjab and the board’s decision has given birth to wide outrage. After a row of artists from B-Town, actor Pankaj Tripathi has also lent his support for the makers of ‘Udta Punjab’.
‘I have read the script of ‘Udta Punjab’. It is an extremely honest and sensitive story. The film made from it should be as it is. I extend my support to the film and condemn the decision of Pahlaj Nihalani,” he wrote on his Facebook profile.
The film has already invited a row of political controversy, with various political parties taking their own stands on it. Meanwhile Anurag Kashyap, who is the producer of the film, has requested all political personas to stay out of it and has termed it his ‘own battle’.
‘Udta Punjab’ stars Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, Diljit Dosanjh and Alia Bhatt. We hope the makers find a solution as soon as possible and we are not deprived of such a wonderful treat!
