Rimi Sen, known for her roles in Hungama, Dhoom, Deewane Huye Pagal, Phir Hera Pheri, and Golmaal: Fun Unlimited, has resurfaced after a 13-year hiatus from the spotlight. The actress is currently embroiled in a legal battle, alleging she lost ₹4 crore to a con man. “He pretended to be a rich businessman and took ₹4 crore from me in parts since 2020, promising to return it with high interest. He started making excuses after taking the money, claiming his family got Covid-19 and then he had to go to Canada,” she explains.
Rimi Sen on quitting Bollywood Industry
Amid the ongoing investigation, Sen reflects on her absence from the film industry. “I got tired of doing comedy films; there used to be not much of a role for me there. And, I was just like a piece of furniture. I had a good role in only a few, like Hungama and Johnny Gaddaar. The latter didn’t work, and that’s the kind of work I wanted to do,” she shared with Hindustan Times.
In 2015, Sen returned to the public eye through the reality show Bigg Boss and co-produced the National Award-winning film Budhia Singh: Born To Run. Despite having worked with top actors such as Akshay Kumar, John Abraham, and Ajay Devgn, Sen admits she is not connected with the film industry anymore. “I can’t ask anyone for help. Jab tak gidgidao nahin, help nahin milti hai (Unless you grovel, you don’t get any help). Why won’t other people look for their own benefit? Why will someone go out of their way to help someone?” she questions.
Rimi on struggles she faced
Sen also opens up about the challenges she faced in the industry.“Stakes are really high in this industry. Talent comes later—you should first know how to handle people. Otherwise, nothing can happen; talent will remain in the storeroom. I didn’t know how to sell myself or do PR.” she concludes.
Rimi Sen’s journey reflects her struggles and her disillusionment with the industry’s dynamics, highlighting her desire for substantial roles and her distaste for the superficial aspects of the business.
