Recently, actress Shagufta Ali opened up about her financial crisis. Now, veteran actress Savita Bajaj has opened up about going through a financial crunch. The actress was infected with COVID-19 three months ago, and she was in the hospital for 22 days. Recently, she was admitted again after she complained of breathlessness. She told ETimes that her savings have dried up as she had spent all the money on her health. “I have developed serious breathing issues and don’t know how I will manage now,” said the National School of Drama (NSD) alumni.
The Beta Ho Toh Aisa actress is worried as it is difficult to sustain with so much expenses. She said that the writers’ association had helped her with Rs 1 lakh in 2016 after she was hospitalised following an accident. Even, CINTAA had helped her with Rs. 50,000. But now she is not in a condition to work due to her poor health.
She said, “I have every intention to pay back the money once I resume work, but right now, I’m not in a condition to work due to my poor health. Sadly, I have nobody who can take care of me today. Around 25 years ago, I had decided to move back to my hometown, Delhi, but no one in my family wanted to keep me. I have earned a lot, helped those in need, but today I need help.”
The 79-year-old actress who featured in over 50 films and was part of many TV shows like Nukkad, Maayka also said that she wants someone to build an old age home for actors like her who are on their own. She added, “I don’t have my own home in Mumbai even after working for so many years. I live on rent in a one-room kitchen in Malad. I didn’t want to ask for money, but it’s going to be difficult for me to manage now.”
