Irrfan Khan passed away on April 29, 2020. Ahead of his first death anniversary, Piku director Shoojit Sircar remembered the late actor. In an interview, the filmmaker said that he recalls Irrfan as ‘God’s special child’. Shoojit said Irrfan was “very pure in terms of his craft, artistry and his conduct and that purity in his thoughts made him special as a person”.
Shoojit told Times of India that their equation started off with work, as an actor and filmmaker and after they wrapped up Piku, Shoojit could not think of anyone else but to work with Irrfan. He said that he wanted him for all his films. Their relationship eventually turned into a deep friendship where they could communicate a lot of things that they wanted to do together. After Irrfan was diagnosed with a neuroendocrine tumour, they got more closer to each other.
The October director further said that he has started to believe in the magic of life that Irrfan believed in. “A lot of Irrfan’s personality has rubbed off on me. I’ve also started to believe in the magic that life spins around us all the time. I believe in the magic of life that he believed in,” said Shoojit.
