Aishwarya Rai Bachchan‘s ‘Sarbjit’ is already creating the right amount of curiosity. The film’s trailer was recently released and it turned out to be something fantastic! Meanwhile, Aishwarya reveals that she intentionally chose not to meet Dalbir Kaur (Sarbjit Singh’s sister) when she was preparing for the character.
Here’s why!
“We (Dalbir and I) don’t look the same but Omung Kumar (director) was clear he wanted me to do it. We had Dalbirji on board, for referencing of her role we had media which had documented things about her… So we took that to gauge mannerisms. I have not spent time with her before shooting for the film… I did not meet her in advance,”, she said during the trailer launch ceremony of ‘Sarbjit’.
The director earlier had stated that though Aishwarya’s physical appearance didn’t match, they made it a point that the true essence of the character remained intact.
‘Sarbjit’ is based on the true story of farmer Sarabjit Singh who was convicted in Pakistan for charges of spying and terrorism. After spending 23 years in jail, he died there. Dalbir Kaur happens to be his sister who consistently fought to bring her brother justice, but failed.
Also starring Richa Chadha & Randeep Hooda, the Omung Kumar directorial hits the screens on May 20.
