Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is reportedly all set to essay the lead role in an Indo-American film that will be based on Rabindranath Tagore’s works. Isheeta Ganguly, a theatre writer and fusion singer, will be making her directorial debut with the movie. It’s also been reported that the film’s title will be changed from Three Women to The Letter, as the film is based on a letter sent by Tagore’s sister-in-law Kadambari Devi.
The news was confirmed by Isheeta Ganguly, talking to News 18, she spoke about the project and said: “Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will be playing the main protagonist in the film. While the play was called Three Women, we are changing the name and have titled our film The Letter as the film is based around the letter of Kadambari Devi who was Tagore’s sister-in-law. I am delighted that Aishwarya loved the script and will be featuring in the film.”

Further, Ganguly revealed that she wanted to make the film in Hindi, however, the actress suggested that the film should be made in English, “Aishwarya and I were in discussion before the pandemic hit. I was originally looking to make it as a Hindi film. When she read the script she felt that the film would fly in English given the urban American sensibilities of the story. It was her conviction that I decided to make it into an Indo-American film.”
Meanwhile, on the work front, Aishwarya will be seen next in the Tamil-language epic historical fiction film, Ponniyin Selvan. With this, she will make a come back after 10 years to Tamil cinema. It is an adaptation of Kalki Krishnamurthy’s 1955 novel of the same name, the film is written by Ratnam along with Elango Kumaravel and B. Jeyamohan. The film also stars Karthi, Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Trisha, Jayaram, Sobhita Dhulipala, and Aishwarya Lekshmi.
