Aishwarya Rai Bachchan to receive the inaugural Meryl Streep Award for Excellence

Former beauty queen and drop dead gorgeous actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is all set to receive the inaugural Meryl Streep Award for Excellence at the first Women in Film and Television (WIFT) India Awards.

WIFT India founding president, Petrina D’Rozario, was quoted as saying by Hollywood Reporter, “Whether it is her extraordinary body of work or her charitable endeavours, Ms Streep is an inspiration for all. Our aim here is to encourage others to think outside the norm of gender-based hiring practices and give females of all nationalities an equal chance to vie in fields dominated by men.”

WIFT India stated that Aishwarya Rai will be receiving an award for showcasing distinction in her craft and for expanding the role of women within the entertainment industry.

The award ceremony will be taking place on September 8 in Washington DC. Apart from Aishwarya, other Bollywood celebs who will be honoured at the award ceremony are filmmaker Zoya Akhtar and newbie Janhvi Kapoor for her performances in her debut film ‘Dhadak’.

Time and again, Aishwarya has inspired us with not just her work on-screen but off-screen as well. And now, we are glad that she will be bestowed with such a great honour. All the best Aishwarya, and keep up the good work.

On the work front, Aishwarya was recently seen in ‘Fanney Khan’ and will be next seen alongside husband Abhishek Bachchan after a long gap in Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Gulab Jamun‘.
