Director Omung Kumar of Mary Kom fame is back with a new biopic. He is all set to make a biopic on Sarabjit Singh the Indian prisoner who died after a brutal attack in a Pakistani prison. Omung Kumar has apparently roped in Bollywood beauty Aishwarya Rai to play the role of Sarabjit’s sister in the film. The role has been offered to a number of actresses from Kangana Ranaut, Deepika Padukone to Priyanka Chopra. Seems like the Bachchan Bahu has bagged it.
Sources said, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has been roped in to play the role of Sarabjit’s sister, Dalbir Kaur, who treated him like her son than her brother. Dalbir’s determination to release her brother from Pakistan was no less than a struggle. Dalbir Kaur was able to meet her brother only thrice, when he was lodged in a Pakistani jail. Dalbir’s only goal in life was to get justice for her brother Sarabjit.
Dalbir Kaur is the 61 years old sister of Sarabjit Singh, the late farmer who crossed over to Pakistan in 1990 and was mistaken for an Indian spy by the Pakistani government. While he was sentenced to capital punishment, he was not hanged. He was tortured in prison. He was kept in jail for 23 years and was murdered by inmates a few days after the death of Afzal Guru in India. Dalbir, who was Sarabjit’s elder sister, spent the good years of her life trying to get her brother released and clear his name. Sarabjit was more like a son to her and her defeat in being able to bring her brother back to India is one of the most crushing stories that will now be told on celluloid.
