Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has possibly essayed the toughest role of her career so far, and that is of a sister who fought for 23 years to bring justice to her brother. We all are aware of Dalbir Kaur’s struggle to set her brother Sarabjit Singh free from the prison of Pakistan and now, her story is set to be replicated on the celluloid. The trailer of the film titled ‘Sarbjit’ has made it to the internet and indeed just like the story, the biopic is hard-hitting too. All the characters, be it Aishwarya, Randeep or Richa, have put their best foot forward for ‘Sarbjit’.
During the recently held trailer launch event, Aishwarya revealed that it was just some kind of a divine calling for her when director Omung Kumar approached her with this project. She said, “10 years ago, a letter, a petition had reached some of the members of the industry, including me, which had to be signed and through this petition Dalbir Kaur (Sarabjit’s sister) was trying to do everything possible to bring attention to work at his (Sarabjit’s) release.”
When director Omung Kumar narrated her the story, she instantly gave a positive nod as it was some kind of a divine calling. “Sarabjit’s life and mine had kind of crossed some path by just signing the petition.Unfortunately, he came back to India, but in a coffin and I had to pay my odd and respect to Sarabjit and I am happy to be on board,” she said.
Truly, Sarabjit Singh’s story is to be told and we are glad that someone from the industry has taken up the charge to do so.
