Ajay Devgn announces new release of Maidaan, says, ‘Experience the true story of Syed Abdul Rahim’

Ajay Devgn starrer Maidaan has got a new release date. The actor on Saturday announced the release date on social media. Maidaan is releasing on February 17, 2023. The sports drama will narrate the story of celebrated Indian football coach, former player and manager of the Indian national team (from 1950 until his death in 1963), Syed Abdul Rahim. Ajay is playing the role of the late coach.

Taking to his Twitter handle, Ajay wrote, “Experience the true story of an unknown hero, Syed Abdul Rahim who brought glory to India. #Maidaan releasing on 17th February, 2023.”

Maidaan’s release dates have been postponed several times due to various reasons. The film is directed by Amit Ravindernath Sharma of the Badhai Ho fame. The movie also stars Priyamani and Gajraj Rao.

For the unversed, in 2021, the movie had suffered a lot of loss as the sets of the film were completely demolished due to cyclone Tauktae in Mumbai. Maidaan producer Boney Kapoor had confirmed to ETimes that they had to rebuild the sets for a third time. Earlier, they had to dismantle the sets because of the Covid-19 lockdown. Boney had also revealed that they had suffered damages worth Rs 30 crore for just rebuilding the sets three times.

Meanwhile, Ajay Devgn received the National Award for Best Actor for Tanhaji from President of India Draupadi Murmu on September 30 in New Delhi.

Apart from Maidaan, Ajay will also be seen in Drishyam 2 and Bholaa.
