Football season is upon us already. Even though the Indian Football team are still to be qualified to play some of the important World Cup finals, we cannot wait for the day to finally arrive, as the game has started to attract admirers from the country in huge numbers.

And as we speak of Football, our Bollywood makers very well know how to en-cash on any trending topic. According to reports in TOI, Ajay Devgn is all set to play Indian football team’s most successful coach and manager ever, Syed Abdul Rahim, in a sports biopic.

Rahim was Indian football team’s coach from the years 1950-1963, and it was under his guidance that the team had gone forward to defeat some of the top teams in the world. He also made India win gold at the 1962 Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia, beating one of the toughest teams of the time, South Korea.

While the film goes on floors early next year, it will be produced by Zee Studios, Boney Kapoor, Akash Chawla and Joy Sengupta. The biopic will be helmed by Amit Sharma, who has earlier directed Arjun Kapoor-Sonakshi Sinha starrer ‘Tevar’ and has recently wrapped up ‘Badhai Ho’.

Speaking of the film, Shariq Patel, CEO of Zee Studios, says, “We are happy to collaborate with Boney Kapoor to tell the story of India’s football coach, Syed Abdul Rahim. Ajay Devgn essaying the character makes it even more special. Yet our team is not being sent to important tournaments. When my partners Akash and Joy brought me the true-life story of Syed Abdul Rahim, I was surprised to learn that not many are even aware of this unsung hero and the achievements of India’s great team which had heroes like Chunni Goswami, PK Banerjee, Balaram, Franco, Arun Ghosh and many others. With Khelo India picking up momentum, the time is right to push India.”
