Akshay Kumar

Akshay Kumar is leaving no stone unturned in reaching out to people through his movie ‘Toilet – Ek Prem Katha’. Now, after rigorous promotions and interviews, the actor is taking a step ahead as he is promoting PM Narendra Modi’s Clean India campaign. As his movie is based on the issue of open defecation across the country, he has taken up the initiative of building one toilet per hour in the next 24 hours in collaboration with Kaya Constructs.

Sharing the same on Twitter, he wrote, “Taking a step further towards Swacch Azaadi. An organisation named Kaya constructs in association with my film has built toilet across the country. Over the next 24 hours, my Instagram stories will be unveiling one toilet every hour. So, keep watching. 24 hours, 24 toilets.” [sic]

In the past, the team of ‘Toilet – Ek Prem Katha’ had been to Lucknow where Akshay and Bhumi along with CM of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath picked up brooms and took an oath of cleanliness with the students. Other than this, the actor even released a ‘Toilet Anthem’ last week called as ‘Toilet Ka Jugaad’ which was sung by the actor himself. The movie revolves around the life of a married couple Keshav and Jaya, played by Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar who are residing in a small village. After marriage, Jaya discovers that there is no toilet in the house and all women have to go far away for toilet. This creates rift between Keshav and Jaya and he decides to take up the mission of building toilets in the house. While one would only assume that the movie deals with a social issue and may be a serious one, Akshay disagrees and calls it an entertainer.

Speaking in a media interaction, the actor said, “My movie is two and half hours of comedy, it is comedy. It is not a documentary, I’m not preaching you with this movie. It’s a complete entertainer, it’s only towards the end that the movie starts getting a bit serious and that’s it. Toilet humour is also in a different way and there is a real story connected here.”

The movie is helmed by Shree Narayan Singh Singh, produced by KriArj Entertainment and will be releasing on August 11, 2017.
