Gorkha first look: Akshay Kumar ‘honoured’ to essay role of Major General Ian Cardozo in war film

Akshay Kumar will star in the upcoming film titled Gorkha, based on the life story of Major General Ian Cardozo. The actor made the official announcement on his Instagram on Friday. Akshay shared the first posters of the film Gorkha in Hindi and English. He made the announcement and unveiled the first look of his upcoming film. Akshay Kumar mentioned in his post that he is ‘honoured’ to essay the role of Major General Ian Cardozo in the film Gorkha.

The Gorkha actor shared the posters and wrote, “Sometimes you come across stories so inspiring that you just want to make them. #Gorkha – on the life of legendary war hero, Major General Ian Cardozo is one such film. Honoured to essay the role of an icon and present this special film. (sic).”

Akshay Kumar revealed the movie is directed and written by Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan. The movie is co-written by Neeraj Yadav. The film is produced by Aanand L Rai and Himanshu Sharma. It also marks Akshay’s another collaboration with Aanand L Rai, after Atrangi Re and Raksha Bandhan.

In the first poster, Akshay is dressed as a soldier during battle. His fierce look is gripping and leaves you wanting to know more about this upcoming movie. The second poster of Gorkha shows Akshay Kumar in another uniform.

Talking about the biopic, it is based on Major General Ian Cardozo, a former Indian Army officer, the first war-disabled officer to command a battalion and a brigade. He is an amputee due to war injury. Cardozo is also known as Cartoos Sahib. The legendary war hero notably fought in the wars of 1962, 1965, and most notably in the Indo-Pakistan War of 1971.

On the work front, Akshay has films- Sooryavanshi, Cinderella, Bachchan Pandey, Raksha Bandhan, Ram Setu, Atrangi Re and a few others in his kitty.
