Akshay Oberoi shrugs off rumours of turning down ‘Fanney Khan’ starring Aishwarya Rai

It was just yesterday that rumours of Vivek Oberoi’s cousin-actor Akshay Oberoi turning down a movie named ‘Fanney Khan’ opposite Aishwarya Rai Bachchan surfaced online. A source had told a leading daily, “Akshay Oberoi was approached for the film. Talks were initiated with the actor but it didn’t work out eventually. Now, they are still hunting for a young actor.”

The theories over his refusal were assumed to be because of Vivek Oberoi’s past history with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Obviously, it came as a huge surprise, the fact that an upcoming actor rejected a role opposite the supremely beautiful and talented Aishwarya Rai? So contrary to these reports, the actor himself issued a statement saying, “Who in their right mind would ever decline a Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra – Aishwarya Rai Bachchan film? It would have been my honor to work with Aishwarya and Rakeysh sir. Yes, I had auditioned for the film and even got shortlisted but unfortunately, I wasn’t the one who was finalized for the role and these things happen. I would have loved to be the one to receive that final call from the producers but maybe next time.”

The producer of the film, Prernaa Arora too said, “We haven’t approached Akshay Oberoi or anyone else for that role as yet. We are yet to finalize any names for this role and will make an official announcement on this soon.”

Actors like Rajkummar Rao and Vicky Kaushal were also in the running for the role opposite Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. However, there has been no actor finalised until now. Let’s wait for an official confirmation on the same by the makers. The movie ‘Fanney Khan’ is directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and also stars Anil Kapoor in it. It is the remake of a Dutch film ‘Everybody’s Famous’.
