Recently, we spotted B-town’s handsome young actor Ali Fazal at the screening of his big Hollywood movie ‘Victoria & Abdul’, in Mumbai. The movie that captures the beautiful relationship between Queen Victoria and Abdul Karim, who is a young clerk from India, has been making a lot of noise of late. But what caught our fancy, was the actor’s smashing, dabang avatar for the big night that will give you the much-needed testosterone dose of the day. Ali picked Shantanu & Nikhil separates that included a long royal blue sherwani with front and side slits and deep maroon churidar for the screening. Sounds run-of-the-mill? Hang on for a moment. The hottie layered the rich kurta with a matching trench coat-inspired bandgala vest with a thick maroon border. That instantly spiced up Ali’s ensemble and added that dramatic and heroic punch. A closer look and you’ll see how the handcrafted vintage coin buttons at the front create an overall sharp look that is functional and sophisticated without being over the top.
The outfit belongs to the Fall/Winter 2017 collection called the ‘Regiment’ and we love how the designers have played with interesting colour blocking elements and hues, reminiscent of the virtues of the Indian armed forces like discipline and pride. If you notice, the ethnic look is not overly masculine and has hints of androgyny. The pleats and flare at the bottom of the kurta also remind us of Ranveer Singh’s oh-so-unforgettable Bajirao Mastani promotional looks that included skirts and flowy kurtas. Don’t they? Styled by celebrity stylist Isha Bhansali, Ali clubbed the outfit with shiny black Trumpet shoes that took the look a notch higher. We particularly like how that stubble and hot fade haircut enhance his muscular jawline.
Ali’s film is set in the pre-Independence era and its trailer has got us wanting more of the actor’s machoness.
