Soni Razdan recalls Alia Bhatt had plans to join a drama school before she bagged SOTY

Alia Bhatt made her Bollywood debut with Karan Johar’s Student of the Year. Alia played the role of Shanaya Singhania and shared screen space with Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra. Student of the Year completed 10 years on Wednesday. On the special day, Alia’s mother Soni Razdan shared a video and revealed how daughter Alia bagged her debut film. The veteran actress revealed Alia had initial plans to join a drama school before making her debut with SOTY.

Soni Razdan wrote, “Student of the Year came from Out of Nowhere for out baby @aliaabhatt and when we least expected it! At the time Alia was busy working on her international Baccalaureate – a diploma I’m so glad she could do – and acting in a movie was a distant dream… one which we were not at all prepared for… just yet. The plan was for Alia to go to a drama school and then somehow try to get a role in something! Thank you @karanjohar for auditioning her, and giving her a chance to work on herself before finally casting out girl. So happy she got the opportunity to do this film, and have you as her mentor, guide, best friend and yes – a second father. With immense gratitude and love, and huge congratulations and blessings always.”

She also shared a collage of Alia’s pictures from Student of the Year and wrote, “My darling @shanoosharmarahihai on this special day of 10 years of SOTY just want to thank you again for thinking of Alia. Your phone call will remain etched in my mind forever. We were about to set off on a trek the next morning when you called that night, and hesitantly asked me if Alia was at all interested in acting! And I said well eventually yes but she’s still studying. So much love to you always.”

Alia also shared a beautiful picture of herself on Instagram and expressed her gratitude as SOTY completed 10 years of its release. She captioned the pic as, “10 years today… and I am so so grateful… EVERY SINGLE DAY!!! I promise to be better – dream deeper – work harder!!!! Thank you for the magic… love love and only love.”

Alia has interesting projects in the pipeline. The actress will be seen in Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani with Ranveer Singh. She is also set to make her Hollywood debut with Heart of Stone. The film also stars Gal Gadot, Jamie Dornan, Sophie Okonedo and Matthias Schweighofer.
