Is Alia Bhatt really playing Sharmila Tagore? Here’s what she has to say…

Recently, rumours of Late Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi’s biopic being in making started making rounds. Soon enough, some even went ahead announced the cast saying that while Ranbir Kapoor will be playing the late cricket legend, Alia Bhatt has been roped in to play Sharmila Tagore. Naturally, the fans were exhilarated. However, now Alia Bhatt herself has come out and cleared the air.

Here’s what the ‘Dear Zindagi’ actress has to say on the matter.

“First of all, it’s strange. I met her just a while back. When we were shooting in Singapore, Sharmila ma’am and Javed sir had come there for a poetry recitation event. I couldn’t meet Javed sir, but I met ma’am and we had a good conversation. She even told me that she liked ‘Kapoor & Sons’. I’ll take it back to what I said earlier, when legends like Sharmila ma’am and Shah Rukh Khan, when they say such thing, it really feels good. Not only coz you get appreciation, but also coz this is not just an industry but a family and when your relatives and elders praise you, they are also motivating you and it feels very touching. So I’ll only say thank you and I hope if I get this opportunity, I’ll perform it well,” Alia said.

We would like to tell you that Alia expressed a desire to be in the biopic when asked about the same on the red carpet of Lux Golden Rose Awards. Also, on being asked who would she like in the role of Late Mansoor Ali Khan, she took Ranbir’s name. Sharmila Tagore too said that if ever a biopic on her is made, she would love Alia to play the role.

Sad, that has squished the hopes of those who wanted to see Ranbir and Alia playing these legends. However, we can still hope, after these statements. Fingers crossed.
