The BAFTA Film Awards have revealed their longlists in 24 categories, and SS Rajamouli’s RRR and Shaunak Sen’s documentary All That Breathes are the two Indian projects that have made it to the long list. Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi featuring Alia Bhatt has sadly not made it to the list. The movie is out of the race.
The longlist in 24 categories for the 2023 edition of the awards was announced on Friday, Jan 6. SS Rajamouli’s directorial featuring Ram Charan and Jr NTR has made it to the longlist at British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA). RRR made the cut in the ‘Film Not in the English Language’ category. Also on the list is Shaunak Sen’s documentary All That Breathes.

The longlists are based on votes from Round 1, which ended on December 30. Reportedly these selected films will be further shortlisted with most of them vying for the final top five for the Bafta Awards. There were a total of 49 films submitted out of which 5 will make it to the final list of the prestigious awards.
Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali attended various events in London as part of the Bafta campaign. The Alia Bhatt starrer was submitted to all the major categories including Best Film, Director, Adapted Screenplay, and Leading Actress. But Gangubai Kathiawadi failed to make the cut. Earlier Bhansali’s Devdas was nominated for a BAFTA award in 2003.
The final BAFTA nominations will be announced on January 19, this will be a live event and the global live stream will be hosted by actors Hayley Attwell and Toheeb Jimoh. Bafta awards are scheduled to be held on February 19 at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall.
RRR features Ram Charan, Jr NTR and Alia Bhatt in pivotal roles. The movie went on to be a blockbuster hit not only in India but overseas too. The SS Rajamouli directorial also features Ajay Devgn in a pivotal role.
