Alia Bhatt to transform into an Indian princess for Gurinder Chadha’s musical with Disney? Here’s what we know

The actress – who has proved her acting capabilities with films like Highway, Udta Punjab, Gangubai Kathiawadi, Raazi and more, recently wrapped up the filming of Jigra, and seems to be getting cast into another. As per latest reports, the actress is the top contender for Gurinder Chadha’s highly anticipated Indian princess musical with Disney.

You read that right. As per a recent media report, filmmaker Gurinder Chadha – known for movies such as Bend It Like Beckham and Bride and Prejudice, is currently working on a musical film about an Indian princess. This project is being made by Disney and is likely to go on floors in the second half of 2025. The script will be penned by Gurinder and Paul Mayeda Berges, with Chadha also directing and producing the film. The details of the plotline have not been revealed.

Alia Bhatt to become a Disney Princess?

As reported by Mid-Day, Gurinder Chadha met Alia Bhatt in January this year when she flew down to attend Aamir Khan’s daughter Ira’s wedding. A source informed the publication, “The two have been in talks for a while. The final casting will happen only after the script is developed, but Alia is among the top casting choices.”

Besides Ira’s wedding, Alia and Gurinder likely interacted when the filmmaker attended the London special screening of Poacher. Alia Bhatt serves as an executive producer on this web series. Chadha was also present at the Hope Gala in London. This gala was hosted by Alia as a fundraiser for a charity organization.

Impact on Alia’s career

Talking about the impact playing an Indian princess in Gurinder Chadha’s musical with Disney will have on her career, the source adds, “After playing a singer in Bhansali’s period drama and an undercover agent in Rawail’s movie, a Disney princess will be a great addition to Alia’s repertoire. Leading the big-budget international project will also be a step forward towards making her presence felt in Hollywood after Heart of Stone [2023].”

The insider added, “If things fall in place, she will kick off work with Gurinder in the second half of 2025.”

Alia is gearing up for the release of the action thriller Jigra. Directed by Vasan Bala, the film – based on a sibling relationship, will also stars The Archies actor Vedang Raina. It is being jointly produced by Alia’s Eternal Sunshine Productions and Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions

She will also star in her standalone film within Yash Raj Film’s Spy Universe. Alia will also be seen in the epic saga, Love & War. This film will see her share screen space with hubby Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal.
