On Tuesday, Actor Alia Bhatt dropped a new track titled, La Ilaaj from her upcoming movie, Darlings. The soulful track is crooned by none other than Arijit Singh and the lyrics are penned by Gulzar in Vishal Bhardwaj’s composition. Arijit’s mesmerizing voice and the picturization of the song will surely strike a chord among many.
In the song, we get to see a glimpse of Alia Bhatt’s life with her husband Vijay Varma and Shefali Shah along with Roshan Mathew. However, we also get to see the domestic abuse in the song which only makes it a heart-wrenching song. Speaking about the track, actor Alia Bhatt said during the song launch, “My reaction (to the song) was like an audience, and not as an actor or producer. My soul reacted to it. I got goosebumps as I heard Arijit Singh sing it. The moment it comes in the movie is also very crucial.”
Debutant director Jasmeet K Reen added, “We wanted a song where two people are madly in love with each other, but there is something broken about them. That is when Gulzar Sahab gave us two words: La Ilaaj.”

During the trailer launch event, Alia opened up about how her foray into production happened. She said, “When the narration was given to me, I was like dekhte hain ye kahaan jaa raha hai as I went in with a totally blank slate. In 2019, when I met Jasmeet and Gaurav (Verma, COO Red Chillies and co-producer), I had a lot of back schedule, but I had this thing that I will hear every script and narration because you never know. The story started like normal and then suddenly it just shifted gears and how. I was so surprised and I am rarely surprised. So, I was just like we have to do this and then very naturally, I was like okay, listen, I think I would like to be a producer on this as well. And Gaurav at that moment was extremely supportive. He was like that is a fantastic idea and we must do this together.”
Darlings will be streaming on the OTT giant Netflix from August 5 onwards.
