Pay disparity between the male and female actors has become a topic of discussion in the recent years. Where some actors have said it is changing for the good but it will take time, there are actors like Alia Bhatt who have put forward their thoughts with honesty. Alia’s last release, ‘Raazi’ saw a good response at the box-office and was appreciated by the critics and masses alike. She is one of the best actors we have and has upped her game over the years but she knows that she still has a long way to go and doesn’t like competing with her contemporaries.

In an interview with DNA, talking about her films Alia says, “The minute you start believing that you deserve this, then there’s a problem. If you deserve something, you’ll get it. We shouldn’t try and control things. I can’t let that affect my choices. I’ll neither undervalue nor overvalue myself because there’s a certain arrogance that comes along with it. Sometimes you do it for the right reasons, sometimes you don’t.”

Alia knows that Varun has a wider reach than her. She explains why she isn’t expecting the same pay as Varun. She says, “Investing money in a film is directly co-related to the people you are bringing to the theatre. I’m not delusional that the same number of viewers who go to watch Varun’s movies will come to see my work. He has a wider reach than me.”

She adds, “That’s why I can’t expect that the same amount of money, which is invested in his solo-starrers, is invested in mine, too. Also, it’s the subject that makes a film viable. We can’t be categorical about everything because every actor and movie is different.”

Alia also said that she won’t let the fee get in the way of her taking up a good script. The ‘Raazi’ actor says, “Never say never, but I won’t let go of a movie that I like because of remuneration. I’ll find a way around it. I’ll still do it because the emotional attachment to my work is way more than the monetary one.

Meanwhile, Alia has wrapped up the first schedule of ‘Kalank‘ which also stars Sanjay Dutt, Madhuri Dixit Nene, Varun Dhawan, Aditya Roy Kapur, Sonakshi Sinha and others. She will now go back to the shoot of ‘Brahmastra’ which co-stars her beau Ranbir Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan and Mouni Roy.
