Model-actor Milind Soman became a sensation with Alisha Chinai’s Made In India song. The video had a huge impact and people were just in awe of Soman. The iconic song has remained special over the years in people’s hearts. It was played in every nook and corner of the country in the 90s. Today, Alisha Chinai has turned a year older and on this special occasion, she talked about her cult song.
In an interview with Indian Express, Chinai revealed that Milind was the first and the “only choice” for the song. She said that she had to catch Ken Ghosh at the collar and tell him that she wanted Milind Soman in Made In India. Ken Ghosh conceptualised the video. Alisha said, “I want the snakes, the astrologer, the elephant, all the Indian elements. Then he made the whole story. The colours, the Indian-ness looked so magical. It revolutionised the whole pop scene on television.” She also said that it was the first time audiences were seeing a singer who was being herself and not lip-syncing. “It became a pop anthem and it still is. It was the perfect song at a time when everyone’s morale was down because anything Indian wasn’t regarded as very good. So, this made every Indian very proud,” she added. According to her, Made In India brought out the patriotic feeling.
Talking about the album, the Queen of Indipop said that after recording, when they finally heard Made In India, they thought either the song will “get crushed into oblivion, or will become a phenomenal hit”.
Made In India released in 1995 and it became a chartbuster. The song is still etched in our hearts and memories.
