YouTuber and podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia is facing legal trouble after missing to appear for questioning at Khar Police Station in Mumbai for the second time, despite a summons issued on Thursday. Mumbai Police officials report that Allahbadia is unreachable, with his phone switched off and no communication established. A joint team of Mumbai and Assam police found his residence locked when they visited.

Ranveer Allahbadia goes missing amid IGL controversy

Previously, Allahbadia requested to have his statement recorded at his home, which was denied. He then appealed to the Supreme Court, challenging the multiple FIRs filed against him across the country. The Supreme Court is expected to hear the matter within the next few days.

The controversy stems from a clip featuring Allahbadia that many found offensive due to its obscene language. YouTube India subsequently removed the episode. Raghu, who was also involved in the controversial clip, recorded his statement on Thursday. He defended his involvement by referencing his experience with the AIB Roast and “India’s Got Latent,” stating that the latter provided a cathartic experience where he felt free to express himself without fear of being taken seriously. He argued that the environment allowed for unrestricted fun and that, like the AIB Roast, participants were insulting each other without malice.

Ranveer’s obscene remarks case

Allahbadia has issued an apology, albeit a seemingly reluctant one, but the investigation remains active. The first FIR was filed in Assam on February 11. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that Guwahati Police registered a complaint against Ranveer Allahbadia, Samay Raina, Ashish Chanchlani, Apoorva Mukhija, and Jaspreet Singh for promoting obscenity and engaging in vulgar discussions related to “India’s Got Latent.”

The Guwahati Crime Branch has registered the case under Cyber PS case no. 03/2025, invoking multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the IT Act, the Cinematograph Act, and the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act. Similar cases have also been filed in Indore and Mumbai, with the Maharashtra Cyber Cell currently leading the investigation.
