Jitendra Shinde, a head constable with the Mumbai police was megastar Amitabh Bachchan’s bodyguard since 2015. Now, he has been transferred to D B Marg police station, South Mumbai on Thursday by city police commissioner Hemant Nagrale after reports surfaced that he was allegedly earning a whopping annual income of Rs 1.5 crore. As per a report in India Today, a departmental inquiry has also been initiated. Mumbai police is now investigating whether Jitendra Shinde earned the said money from Mr. Bachchan or someone else.
Shinde has told police officials that he runs a security agency and the India Today report also stated that sources said that his agency provides security to several other celebrities and renowned personalities as well. He told police that his wife runs the security business in her name. Shinde also said that Big B did not pay him Rs 1.5 crore.
According to Mumbai police, a cop cannot be at one place for more than five years and Shinde was with Amitabh Bachchan since 2015. He was one of the favourite bodyguards of the actor and was seen with him in many places. A senior IPS officer told TOI that Shinde was shifted “in a routine manner as per the new guidelines prescribed by Nagrale, who had made it clear no police constable will continue on the same post beyond five years”.
The IPS officer also said that on the basis of reports, they will first issue Shinde a show-cause notice and secure basic information from him. “We are keen to know if, despite the state government paying him a regular salary, he was accepting an additional monthly salary from some other agency. As per Maharashtra’s service rules, a government servant cannot accept a salary from two establishments. The future course of action will depend on his reply to the show-cause notice,” the IPS officer said.
