Actor Amitabh Bachchan who has contributed incredibly to the Hindi cinema was honoured with the Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Award on Wednesday. The superstar was accompanied by his son Abhishek Bachchan who ensured that his father his safe from the crowd. The event was also attended by A R Rahman, Randeep Hooda, Padmini Kolhapuri, Chinmay Mandlekar and others.
Amitabh Bachchan was honoured with Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Award
This award was created by her family and the trust in the memory of Lata Mangeshkar after died in 2022. In the event, singer Usha Mangeshkar, the third eldest Mangeshkar sibling, bestowed the award on Bachchan. For the event, the Piku actor also offered prayers to the late singer along with Abhishek.
The Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Puraskar is an award given annually to an individual who has made a significant contribution towards the nation, its people, and society. The award is named after Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar, a renowned Indian classical music singer. The first recipient of this award was Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In 2023, Asha Bhosle received the award for her outstanding contribution.
Amitabh Bachchan recalls his live concert career
During the event, Bachchan recalled when he was in New York and Lata Mangeshkar requested him to visit her programme. “In 1981, I was in New York, and a friend came and said that Lata ji is in New York and she wanted to meet you. I went to meet Lata ji, and she said, ‘There’s a program of mine here, I want you to come on stage for just two minutes and introduce me’. I couldn’t understand why she was asking me to do this. But because she is Lata Mangeshkar, I agreed to her request.”
During the event, Lata ji asked the actor, “Amitabh ji, listen, we’ve heard that you’ve recently sung a song in one of your films“? When the late singer insisted that Amitabh ji sing the “Mere Angne Mein” song, fans went bonkers. They were dancing and enjoying his performance. Seeing people’s craze, one of his friends even told him that they would have programmes every year in different countries.
