EXCLUSIVE: Ananya Panday opens up on the mixed reviews to Gehraiyaan: People are meant to have opinions and we are happy

Actress Ananya Panday is currently over the moon as as has received so much love for her performance in Gehraiyaan. She played Tia, Deepika Padukone’s on-screen cousin in the film. Ananya has been lauded for her outstanding acting. In fact, many have said it’s her best performance till date. On the response, Ananya told Bollywood Bubble, “People are already feeling protected about Tia, her character. They could connect and relate to her. So, I feel grateful.”

When asked how she sees herself today as an actor from the point she started off, Ananya said, “My whole outlook towards acting has changed. I always wanted to be an actor growing up and earlier I was just intrigued and excited to be on the big screen. I was very obedient and would listen to every single thing my director said and I didn’t bring a lot of self to the character. With Gehraiyaan, Shakun (Batra) has really helped me develop that process and I hope to take it forward with me. He has emphasized in honesty and being present at the moment. The freedom to discover what my choices would be as an actor playing Tia has been extremely rewarding and assuring. It’s something that I want to take with me.”

Gehraiyaan is one of those movies which has received mixed reviews from critics and audiences alike. On it, the actress said, “Honestly, we just wanted to tell the story that we set out to tell and tell it as honestly as possible and not compromised at any point with that. Art is meant to be subjective. People are meant to have opinions and we are happy that people are discussing, having conversations and different opinions and listening to others point of view makes you feel something at the end of the day. It could make you feel anything like uncomfortable, reflective,  and it could make you feel anything as long as it’s affecting you in a certain way. Honestly, the amount of love we have got, the amount of people related to the characters. There are people who haven’t liked the film when they watched it for the first time and they watched it another time, and found something new. We are very very grateful for the love we got. We are happy that people are having conversations because we set out to do that and were pretty open about that during the promotions as well”
