Anil Kapoor backs out of Akshay Kumar starrer Housefull 5 owing to money issues- Reports

The creators of the popular ‘Housefull franchise have unveiled plans for the fifth instalment, aptly titled ‘Housefull 5’. The announcement garnered much anticipation following its announcement last year. Familiar faces from the franchise, including Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, and Abhishek Bachchan, are all set to return. The buzz reached a fever pitch with the inclusion of Anil Kapoor and Nana Patekar in the ensemble cast. However, recent reports suggest a setback as Anil Kapoor has reportedly opted out of the film, citing a disagreement over remuneration with producer Sajid Nadiadwala.

Anil Kapoor rejects Housefull 5 due to fees issue

According to a Mid-Day report, the departure of Anil Kapoor from the movie stems from a divergence in financial negotiations between him and the producer. While there appears to be no animosity, the two parties failed to reach a consensus regarding Kapoor’s fee. This lead to his decision to withdraw from the project. Meanwhile, the report also indicates that adjustments are being made to Patekar’s role in the film due to Anil’s exit. Initially conceived as characters intertwined akin to their roles in the ‘Welcome’ franchise, the script is undergoing revisions to accommodate the altered dynamics. Director Tarun Mansukhani is gearing up to commence shooting for the film by the end of August.

Despite these developments, there has been no official confirmation from the production team regarding Anil Kapoor’s departure from ‘Housefull 5’. The film, initially slated for a Diwali release this year, was subsequently rescheduled for June 6, 2025. Akshay Kumar, on his social media announcement, promised audiences ‘FIVE times the madness’ in this latest instalment. It also features Arjun Rampal and Dharmendra in pivotal roles.

Turning focus to Anil Kapoor’s recent projects, the actor was last seen in ‘Fighter’ alongside Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone. He was also seen in a prominent role in the blockbuster ‘Animal’, starring Ranbir Kapoor.
