On June 9, 2015, Chauhan was appointed as the institution’s chairperson, which was followed by a massive protest from the students’ community all across the country. Chauhan, who had little in his achievement list to justify his intellect or ability to guide the brightest and most creative minds, refused to step down from his position. The academics at FTII had come to halt due to students having called for an indefinite strike. Renowned artistes across various forms of arts joined the protest, accusing the ruling party of practicing bias and bringing in a close associate at such a crucial position.
However, Chauhan headed FTII for over two years.
With Kher’s appointment as the new chairperson, a portion of mass goes on to question whether it was his proximity to the ruling party that bore fruit. However, the perfection that he possesses over his craft his unquestionable.
