Singer Rihanna and activist Greta Thunberg’s tweets on the ongoing farmers’ protest created a huge uproar on social media. While some supported them for expressing their solidarity for the farmers, some lashed out at them. Post their tweets, many foreign individuals extended their support. The Ministry of External Affairs responding to the comments worldwide issued a statement urging everyone that before rushing to comment on such matters all the facts be ascertained, and one should have a proper understanding of the issues. The statement referred to ‘sensationalist social media hashtags and comments’ by ‘celebrities and others’ without mentioning any celeb name.
Bollywood celebs like Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, Ekta Kapoor, Ajay Devgn, Anupam Kher and others supported this stand by the Centre and tweeted about it on their respective Twitter handles.
Anupam Kher took an indirect jibe at Rihanna and other international celebs who commented on India’s farmers’ protest. He wrote a poem in Hindi saying, “This poem is for those foreigners who interfere in India’s internal matters”.
“हमारे देश के अंदरूनी मामलों में दख़ल देने वाले कुछ विदेशियों के लिए यह शेर अर्ज़ है…
रिंदे ख़राब हाल को ज़ाहिद ना छेड तू ,
तुझको परायी क्या पड़ी अपनी नबेड तू.. :),” he tweeted.

For the uninitiated, on Tuesday, Rihanna shared a piece of news on internet ban on the protest sites in India and tweeted, “Why aren’t we talking about this?!” Activist Greta Thunberg also shared the same piece of news to ‘stand in solidarity with the #FarmersProtest in India’.
