Last Friday, actor Rajkummar Rao’s ‘Newton’ had hit the screens. The same day it was revealed that ‘Newton’ has got an entry to the Oscars. Along with the applause and appreciation coming in from the B-Town celebs, what later followed was more as a shock for everyone. Reportedly, it was being claimed that the movie is inspired by a 2001 released Iranian movie ‘Secret Ballot’. But, today filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has come out in support of this film with a series of tweets.
The filmmaker first took to his Twitter handle writing, “That day when you wake up to the news that a deserving film makes a deserving box office .. Newton Shines .. super happy..” [sic] And it was after this tweet that the filmmaker quipped on the reports of ‘Newton’ being copied. He tweeted, “”Newton” is as much a copy of “Secret Ballot” as The Avengers is of Watan Ke Rakhwale.” [sic] (Also Read: ‘It’s like a windfall’, says ‘Newton’ director on movie’s official entry to the Oscars)
