Anurag Kashyap to conduct masterclass on Censorship in Melbourne

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap is set to attend the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne. The festival will kick-start on August 11 and will continue till August 21. Kashyap will conduct a masterclass on Censorship and how it affects the fate of Indian cinema.

Off late, the CBFC’s actions of controlling/censoring content in films has been broadly questioned. Recently, ‘Udta Punjab’ which was produced by Kashyap and extensively dealt with the alarmingly increasing problem of drug abuse in Punjab was grounded by the board but the makers fought an uphill battle and managed to release the film. Earlier, the board landed itself amidst criticisms after it demanded a kissing sequence in Bond’s ‘The Spectre’ to be shortened.

Kashyap, as an independent filmmaker, has always been vocal about the freedom of artists to depict reality through films. He, surely, is the right pick to conduct a class on Censorship!
