In a recent interview with India Today, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap addressed allegations made by Pankaj Jha about being replaced in the film Gangs of Wasseypur. Jha had reportedly called Kashyap ‘timid’ and ‘spineless,’ but later denied these claims, stating that his words were misrepresented by the media.
Kashyap explained his decision to replace Jha, recounting that during the filming of his 2010 movie, The Girl in Yellow Boots, Jha had relocated to Osho in Pune and was unavailable for Gangs of Wasseypur. “We were on a tight budget and could not wait for him. We made the film in a very different condition and budget,” Kashyap clarified.

Reflecting on the situation, the 51-year-old filmmaker suggested that Jha might be bringing up the incident now because of the success of actor Pankaj Tripathi. “Now he may be thinking after 20 years, he could have become Pankaj Tripathi,” Kashyap noted.
Kashyap also reminisced about his past collaborations with Jha in films like Gulaal and Black Friday, expressing a desire to work with him again. “He has actually been my go-to actor,” Kashyap said, adding, “I would love to work with him again, but the fact is, he is not accessible at all.”
In response to the allegations, Pankaj Jha recently clarified his stance, denying that he ever called Kashyap ‘spineless’. “All this news of me calling him spineless are all things twisted and made up,” Jha stated, emphasising that Kashyap is like a ‘brother’ to him. As Kashyap prepares for the release of his upcoming web series Bad Cop, where he plays a villain, he reflects on the incident with a tone of reconciliation and respect towards Jha.
The series is set to premiere on Disney+ Hotstar starting June 21.
