When Anushka Sharma’s ‘Phillauri‘ trailer released, we were the first one to decode that the trailer bore some similarities from a Hollywood animated film of 2005 called the ‘Corpse Bride’. (Also read: 5 Reasons why you should surely watch Anushka Sharma and Diljit Dosanjh’s ‘Phillauri’)

That’s because in ‘Phillauri’, the character of Suraj Sharma gets married to a tree as he is Manglik. Anushka Sharma’s character Shashi (a friendly spirit) resides in the same tree and her spirit chases him all the time claiming that he is married to her. Similarly, in the ‘Corpse Bride’, a guy gets married to a ghost while practising his wedding vows in a nearby forest. This led us and many others to believe that the concept of ‘Phillauri’ is somewhat similar to ‘Corpse Bride’.

But, the lead actress and producer of the movie, Anushka Sharma has denied any similarity between the two. Speaking to a leading daily, she said, “There is no similarity between ‘Phillauri’ and ‘Corpse Bride’ because Tim Burton’s film falls in dark humour space. Secondly, the whole concept of a Manglik getting married to a tree is a very Indian concept, so it can not be a copy of anything. But, I understand when something different comes out, people are like ‘are different hai toh kisi ka copy toh hoga’.”
