Yesterday marked a bittersweet day for tennis lovers across the world as Roger Federer announced his retirement from competitive tennis after an illustrious career spanning over 24 years.

Roger Federer made the big news public with a loving voice note reciting his retirement letter to his fans across the globe. He later shared the written note on his social media as well, and as soon as he did that, people started celebrating the tennis legend by sharing their thoughts and memories with him.

As the sporting world was quite emotional at the news, even Bollywood paid tribute to Roger in their own ways. Amongst them was Anushka Sharma as well, who shared Roger’s announcement post with the word “Genius”. She later on also reshared an article about arguably Roger’s biggest rival on court and friend, Rafael Nadal’s note for him, as she wrote, “These two,” with a crying and heartbreak emoji.
Not just her, but even husband Virat Kohli celebrated the tennis player as he wrote in the comments, “The greatest of all time. King roger (sic)”. He wasn’t the only one as even Esha Gupta dropped hearts in the comments and so did Huma Qureshi who followed it with, “Forever”.Â
Kareena Kapoor too took to her Instagram stories to share Roger’s note, alongside which she wrote, “LEGEND”. Dia Mirza was another fan of Roger who celebrated him, as after dropping hearts in the comments section, she also took to her stories to write, “Legend… My all time favourite. What an amazing human being! (sic)”.Â
Sunny Deol was quite emotional by this move of Roger as he wrote in the comments, “I am feeling v v v sad. He is my hero. Would want him to play forever. He’s the best sportsman ever. Best wishes tons of love. (sic)”. After that, he even put up a post for his idol saying, “Roger we r going to miss you. Wish u the best. GOAT. #myhero #greatest #sportsman #ever (sic)”.

Roger has led quite an inspirational career in tennis which includes 20 grand slam titles and 103 overall titles. He has always been one of the most loved athlete all around the world and his presence in the game of tennis will surely be missed.
